Things I have learned since turning 30 pt.1
Things I have learned since turning 30 pt.1
It’s ok not to be liked by everyone.
God this would have been 18 year old cat’s worst nightmare. “Huh? What do you mean there are people out there who don’t like me? Right what can I do to make them like me”.
People pleasing was my thing and the thought of someone not liking me would have made me choke up. In fact even in recent years, I still found it weird if I knew someone didn’t like me (how could you not like me ffs😂). It’s a natural feeling, but I mean realistically, it’s a bit mad to think that out of the 8 billion people on this planet that everyone will vibe with you. Being ok with not being liked means you are embracing your uniqueness of who you really are, not changing or hiding parts of yourself to please others. It’s kind of empowering to live by your deeper values of who you really are isn’t it?
When the time comes to leave earth you wouldn’t want to look back at your life and regret the things you didn’t do because of the fear of not being liked, it sounds so silly when you put it like that doesn’t it.
We all have different tastes and like different things and that includes people too. Go be who you truly are, it’s ok if someone doesn’t like it.
Imposter syndrome is real, but don’t let it hold you back.
Holy f*ck the imposter syndrome is rifeeeeeeeeeeee like does it ever go away? I dunno. But what I have learned is that while the imposter syndrome is still there, you still go for it with all guns blazin’. Feel the fear and do it anyway style. That wee voice in the back of your head is such a melt at times but don’t let it stop you. Go ask for the promotion, pay rise, speak live on stage at the conference, start posting content you enjoy talking about on your social media, start up a wee group in your community, message that person way out of your league – I’m actually sliding into Jason Momoas dm’s as we speak.
Sometimes I get it when I go to post my blogs, I think “Why am I actually doing this? People probably think it’s cringe, delete the whole thing it’s shite”. Then I post it and get the loveliest messages from strangers and friends too discussing the points I made or chatting about how they can relate or that it’s helped them in a certain situation. Buckle up imposter syndrome you’re coming with me whether you like it or not.
Moral of the story is you deserve your shot at what you want, make a point to go for it.
Never underestimate the importance of dedicating time to yourself.
As Rumi says, “Never give from the depths of your well, but give from your overflow”.
I know I am an absolute melter on my Instagram when it comes to nature but it literally is my saving grace. Bad mood? Nature can fix it. Anxious? Nothing a few hours in the forest won’t sort. Feeling good? I’ll go celebrate watching the sunset. There is nothing that helps me feel more balanced energetically, emotionally and physically than being in nature especially by myself. If I don’t get outside I can really feel the effects on my mood. It can be harder in the winter with working during the day and the dark evenings but I make a point to make it work because I know how good it makes me feel.
Find out what your version of that is. What aligns you back to feeling good? It could be the gym, family, art, dancing, sport – what ever it is, make sure you dedicate time to it.
Part 2 coming soon 🥰
