Your purpose. Why am I here? What’s this all about like?

Mindset Blog Catherine Rooney

The age old question, life purpose. What am I supposed to be doing with my life? How do I know I’m on the right path? Can someone just tell meeeeee? If only it was that easy!

Years ago, I was what I call ‘floating’ through life. I wasn’t consciously living, I was doing what I thought everyone wanted me to do, behaving like I thought others thought I should behave. It’s very easy to get caught up in mainstream life, dress how the media tells you you should dress and stay within the norms of society, watching the strategically aired news, all of that carry on. It’s important to take a conscious step out of that (if you are in it) and focus on some inner work so you can find out who you really are and follow your true path.

I would say life purpose is another word for life happiness. It’s very easy to get lost in trying to find your purpose, inner noise and intuition is distracted by outer events – not to mention the media manipulation we are fed daily. This is why mediation is extremely important, connecting your mind to your body, listening to your intuition and helping you find what truly sparks joy within (not what you think you should do to spark joy, use your heart and gut to guide you instead of your brain for this one).

Sometimes people find this out when they are teenagers (rare), sometimes people find this out in their mid 20s and hit the ground running. And sometimes people don’t find it out until they are 70 – look at the KFC Colonel he didn’t hit it off until he was 65! The point I am making is that we are all on different timelines. Some may discover it slowly over the years, it’s not always a light bulb moment and that’s ok because life is here to be experienced.

I read this quote from a book a while back:

“Remember to conduct yourself in life as if at a banquet. As something being passed around comes to you, reach out your hand and take a moderate helping. Does it pass you by? Don’t stop it. It hasn’t yet come? Don’t burn in desire for it, but wait until it arrives in front of you. Act this way with children, a spouse, toward position, with wealth—one day it will make you worthy of a banquet with the gods.”

Some may disagree with this but it’s certainly helped me in life. Of course we have to put in the hard work for the things we want to achieve but it’s about having the patience for divine timing. Why choke the energy and hold on to not having something when it’s actually on it’s way to you or something better is actually on the way? And you could be enjoying the present moment and all of the lovely things around you now (easier said than done I know). If you had a crystal ball and seen your life you would think the same way but again, that’s not what life is about, it’s about the peaks and troughs of experiences that shape us. No one gets away without the troughs let’s face it, but sure we wouldn’t know joy without them, ying and yang and all that. Moral of the story is everything will come round to you when the time is right.

Before every action you take say to yourself “what is my reasoning for this” make sure that everything you do is for the right reason and by right reason I mean a reason that sits right with your soul. Something that makes YOU feel good, not for validation from others, not because it’s what you think other people think you should do, is this for you and something that sits right with your soul? Yeah? Good then do it.

Don’t get caught up in finding your life purpose. It will come to you when the time is right. The key (for me anyway) is to follow what you love doing. You know that doesn’t always mean that it has to be your paid job/career. Your purpose on earth could be to be the best parent you possibly can, to teach a child how to love, help them through life and teach them the skills you developed through your own life, that they can then pass on to generations and generations to come.

Your purpose can also be a message you need to bring forth e.g. maybe you went through something in your past and you now are using what you have learned through your own experiences or even your mistakes, to teach or inspire others how to get through it.

Maybe you have found something that makes you happy but your unsure how to do more of it or get to a certain point with it. Sometimes the best way to get into something is to find an expert in it and simply ask them – how did you get here? What do you recommend I should do? Can you let me get some experience with you? People love getting asked for advice as if they are an expert – it boosts their ego so you will be surprised how many people are actually willing to help you.

I’m still figuring it all out myself but one thing I am concrete certain about – I want to help people. That’s what gives me satisfaction, that and being creative – so why not combine the two!

Everyone’s purpose is different so never compare yourself to others, we are all here for our own wee reasons – make sure you listen to your intuition and how you feel when doing certain tasks. It will guide you on the right path. We spend so much of our lives looking outward for the answers when a lot of the time the answers are within, so get your mind and body connected!

So, follow what makes you happy, turn off the news, connect with yourself and try to distance yourself a bit from the mainstream. No one really knows what they are doing anyway we are all here just giving life a go, trying our best, messing up and trying again. You are doing great 💪🏼.

P.s. Enjoy stepping out of the norms you have been pigeon holed into by society! But if a sign says do not climb on the frame, do not climb on the frame, that’s a rule there for a reason trust me😂🦋
